Govedarzi is situated in the northwest pert of Rila Mountains, by the river Cherni Iskar, at an altitude of 1200 m above the sea level. It is 13 km away from Samokov and 73 km away from Sofia.
Its climate is cool temperate; the average temperature in January is -4,2 C and 15,5 C in July. The valley in which the village is situated is known for its abundance in sunshine and lack of foggy days throughout the year. The snow cover, which is over 25 cm thick, lasts for about 160 days The "Ela" House is situated in the center of Govedarzi. Its amenities include 4 south-looking double rooms with balconies. Two extra beds can be provided in each room upon request. There are 2 bathrooms with a shower and a toilet. The house is centrally heated. There is a tavern with a fireplace seating 30 people. It offers local specialties and other dishes typical for the Bulgarian cuisine as well as short orders, grilled meat and homemade pastries. There is also a doctor on call 24 hours a day to deal with emergencies. A ski instructor, ski equipment and transport to and from the ski run are provided for beginner skiers. The courtyard of the house is cosily arranged with a barbecue and flowerbeds all over. There is a well-lit car park. The climate of this mountainous resort is suitable for the healing of respiratory-, cardio-vascular-, nervous- and endocrine system disorders. For those keen on skiing, there is a 2-kilometre-long ski run, situated at the foot of Mechit /2640 m/, which is 2 km away from the village. There is also a 1300 - meter-long Pomagalski draglift. The resort is also suitable for hiking. The chalets "Sedemte ezera", "Maljovitsa", "Mechit", "Strashnoto ezero", "Urdini ezera" are several hours away. The village is also a starting point for short and longer treks along different routes such as Kobilino branishte - Rila Monastery - Ribni ezera and Rilski ezera - Ivan Vazov chalet etc. Extreme sports such as climbing and rafting can be developed in the future. During the summer the forests and meadows surrounding the village are suitable with for mushroom-, berry- and herb-picking. The Belchin Banja Spa is 20 km away. Its mineral water is suitable for the healing of skin, intestinal and locomotory system disorders. It is highly recommended for drinking. Transportation is provided for those willing to use the swimming pool in Belchin Banja during the summer. There are itineraries with mountainous guides suitable for mushroom-, berry- and herb-picking. Picnics, trout fishing and hunting can be organized. The Iskar artificial lake is situated just 25 km away from the resort offering excellent beach, fishing and water sports. |
